You're here. We're so glad. This is everything you need for your first 30 days, one small piece at a time. You don't have to know it all on day one. Nobody does.
Tick each line off as you learn it. Your progress saves on this phone.
Your first day is a short one, just a few hours. Brilyn and Danica will be there with you the whole time. You'll mostly watch, ask questions and find your way around.
Black, white, cream or brown. Clean and put together, with shoes you can stand in for a few hours.
You'll do your paperwork with Brilyn first thing, so it's out of the way and you can focus on the salon.
Anything about the day, the book or supplies goes in the group text, so everyone sees it once. Pay, time off, or a problem you can't fix goes to Brilyn directly.
By name, within ten seconds, even with busy hands. Take her coat, offer water or coffee, then walk her to her stylist by name.
"Hi Jess! Come on in. Can I grab your coat and get you a coffee?"
How they talk to clients, how they keep their stations, and how a client is walked up to checkout. You don't have to remember it all. You'll see it again every day.
A question asked on day one saves a mistake in week three. Ask as many as you want.
By Friday you can open and close on your own and keep the salon running between clients.
Running out of clean towels mid-day is the one we never want. Keep a load going, and restock the back bar and color bar before anyone has to ask.
Your stylist shows you how she wants it done the first few times. Ask her which shampoo and treatment she wants for that client. As a student, only do the services Brilyn or your stylist has okayed for you.
"I don't have anything with her this week, but I can put you on the cancellation list and call you the second something opens. Would that work?"
Now you start working alongside the stylists. Take these one at a time, in any order your stylist sets.
Ask the stylist what finish she wants before you start. When you're done, she checks it before the client sees the back.
Extensions are done by certified stylists. You help with prep, sectioning and removal the way she shows you. Client hair is ordered for that client, so never use it for anything else.
Post it in the group text that day. Danica owns the inventory app and the reorder list, so anything missing goes to her, never on a sticky note.
Call that stylist's people first, since her clients want her. Call, don't text, for anything in the next 48 hours. Take someone off the list once she books.
When you can say yes to all of these, sit down with Brilyn for fifteen minutes. She signs off, and you're on your own.
Everyone who sits in our chairs is wanted here. That goes for you too.
You'll come back to this page more than any other.
